There are many reasons why psychological assessment may be needed or desired. One is that a client has been diagnosed with multiple different disorders through life and their treatment team (or the client) wants a more definitive answer. Diagnosis is not always clear and psychological testing can provide a clearer picture and a more focused direction in treatment, which usually leads to faster and better treatment results.
Another common reason for testing is related to learning disorders, intellectual ability, and academic or behavioral problems in children and teenagers. A school may require or recommend testing and while many schools may provide this service, some families prefer to seek a third party to preform the testing. There are numerous benefits to this, one of which is that the family is the one who "owns" the test results rather than the school. You also have the benefit of being able to choose a professional you feel comfortable with.
Finally, many adoption agencies require brief psychological testing before they are cleared to adopt through that agency. This is a service I am happy to provide as you navigate the complex and often stressful adoption process.
to jessica dearlove schwan https://newdaycounselingil.com/individual-therapy hi! I saw your post in the Grad Psych alum page about possibly looking to bring on new therapists. I'm a 2010 Wheaton MA grad and a 2016 Wheaton PsyD grad and became fully licensed as a psychologist last year and am already paneled with most insurances. I'd only be looking for part-time work at this time, and understand if you're only looking for full-timers right now.
